Is Botox Right For Me?

What is Botox?

Botox is a branded name for botulinum toxin. When injected into the skin, the toxin is able to temporarily block the chemical substance, acetylcholine, which causes our muscles to contract.

When we block the nerve ending from releasing this chemical, the muscles are relaxed and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced. Depending on the treatment area will define where and how much Botox is injected into the skin.

When should I get it?

As we age, wrinkles become more defined across our skin as we naturally lose elasticity. Doctor Nyla suggests the best time to consider Botox or anti-wrinkle injections is when you notice these expression lines are present even when static.

This usually happens around the mid-30s, however, this will vary depending on your genetics, if you smoke, your stress levels and sun exposure. It is easier to smooth out these fine lines and wrinkles when they are simply that; fine lines. As you get older and these wrinkles deepen, it becomes more difficult to reduce them. In some cases, if the wrinkles are too deep, Dr. Nyla Raja’s experienced and qualified team will use Dermal Fillers instead.

How long does it last?

On average, it takes about 2 weeks to see the full effect of your Botox injections. However, you will start to notice the results from just a few days post-treatment.

Depending on each patient, will determine how quickly your body processes the toxin. Most clients will see lasting effects from between 3-6 months. Again, just how the Botox effects gradually appear over 2 weeks, they will also gradually disappear.

Other uses for Botox?

Not only used for smoothing out wrinkles across the face, but Botox injections can also be a treatment for other concerns. For those who suffer from conditions like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) or migraines, this may be an alternative solution to your concerns.

Excessive sweating is a condition which affects many people where their sweat glands are overactive and produce sweat to cool you down even when you’re not hot. By injecting Botox into the underarms or hands, this blocks the signals that stimulate your sweat glands.

Botox injections can also help relieve the severe pain of migraines by blocking the neurotransmitters. This means we can stop the pain before it even occurs. Dr. Nyla suggests a treatment every twelve weeks for the best results.

We can even treat facial flushing if you blush when embarrassed or anxious across Dr. Nyla’s Medispas in Cheshire, Liverpool, and Harley Street London. Again, by injecting the Botox into the face, neck or chest, we can block the signals between the nerve cells that reach the skin and blood vessels.
