VISIA is a specialised skin analysis procedure that uses computerised photo images to assess the health and condition of the skin. It has the technology to delve into 8 key areas of the face and identify a variety of concerns such as UV spots, acne, brown spots and porphyrins, even before they become visible. The results can help to highlight which concerns need attention, from which the right solution can be recommended in order to help repair the skin.

The 8 key areas include:

SPOTS – usually brown or red in appearance, they can vary in size and may include: freckles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation and vascular lesions.

PORES – these can become enlarged as a person gets older, or as a result of sun exposure, genetics and lifestyle choices.

WRINKLES –  a typical symptom of ageing, they are the result of lost collagen and elastin in the skin, making the structure weak. Genetics, sun exposure, lifestyle habits and facial movement can help to accelerate their development and accentuate their appearance.

TEXTURE – a rough and uneven texture can arise from the changes that occur in the skin as a person ages, as well as skin that can start to become dry.

PORPHYRINS – these are evidence of bacteria that gets lodged in the pores, which can lead to acne.

UV SPOTS – developed from a build-up of melanin beneath the skin, sun exposure can contribute to the appearance of UV spots as the pigment collects at the damaged cells.

RED AREAS – a range of concerns, such as acne, inflammation, rosacea or spider veins can cause the face to look red, or ‘flushed’.

BROWN SPOTS – hyperpigmentation, freckles and melasma are examples of a discolouration of the skin, where patches of skin become darker than the skin that surrounds it.

A consultation at Doctor Nyla Medispa can outline a treatment(s) that can restore your appearance to one that is smooth, clear and radiant.

VISIA is a specialised Computerised Photo Imaging Skin Analysis tool used to identify any possible skin damage and suggest the best way forward in terms of treatment. The tool takes several photographs of your face which will highlight any issues or concerns in close detail.

The VISIA will look at 8 key areas of your complexion to determine which areas could do with some help, allowing us to recommend treatments that will aid skin recovery.

  1. Spots: Usually brown or red skin marks, including freckles, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation and vascular lesions. Varying in shape and size, they are distinguishable by the distinct colour and contrast from the background skin tone.
  2. Pores: Circular surface openings of sweat gland ducts. Due to shadowing, enlarged pores appear darker than the surrounding skin tone and are identified by their darker colour and circular shape. They are caused by sun damage, genetics and lifestyle.
  3. Wrinkles: Furrows, creases or folds in the skin that result due to ageing, sun exposure and excessive smoking. This all breaks down the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin, making the skin less flexible.
  4. Texture: Raised and depressed areas that indicate variations on the skin’s surface that is affecting skin smoothness.
  5. Porphyrins: Bacterial excretions that can become lodged in pores and lead to acne. Porphyrins fluoresce in UV light and exhibit circular white spot characteristics.
  6. UV Spots: Forms when melanin coagulates below the skin’s surface as a result of sun damage. Though invisible under normal lighting conditions, the selective absorption of the UV light by the epidermal melanin enhances its display and detection by VISIA.
  7. Red Areas: This could indicate a range of conditions, including acne, inflammation, rosacea or spider veins.  Acne spots and inflammation vary in size but are typically round in shape, whereas rosacea is larger and more diffuse. Spider veins are short, thin and can be interconnected in a dense network of veins. Blood vessels and haemoglobin contained in the papillary dermis, a sub-layer of skin, give these structures their red colour, which is detected by the RBX Technology in VISIA.
  8. Brown Spots: Lesions on the skin, which include hyper-pigmentation, freckles, lentigines, and melasma. Occurring due to an excess of melanin, which is produced by melanocytes in the bottom layer of the epidermis.

With VISIA, Doctor Nyla can combine her expertise with this advanced technology to determine the right treatment to battle your skin concerns. You’ll firstly place your face gently in the machine, and we’ll ask you to close your eyes. VISIA will then take a couple of photographs of your face and point out key areas of concern. This only takes a few minutes, after which time we’ll examine the images together, and recommend treatments that will lessen and help to resolve your skin issues. You’ll be given a score for each key area which will aid this decision, which also takes factors such as your age, lifestyle and medical history into account. Whether we suggest Ultracel, anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, the ENVY facial, the Carbon Peel or one of our other fantastic treatments, we’ll discuss a range of options that will rejuvenate your skin, and keep it glowing.

VISIA is a pain-free skin analysis technique that requires no downtime.

The Process: In More Detail

The VISIA creates a detailed quantitative analysis and visual assessment of your face, using various forms of advanced programming, which includes:

  • TRUSKIN AGE®: Determines the patient’s overall skin condition and age, guiding us in the choice of your treatment options.
  • ADVANCED AGING SIMULATION: Simulates how clients might appear between the ages of 18-80.
  • UPDATED RBX® TECHNOLOGY: Provides a more refined visualisation of sub-surface melanin and vascular conditions for all skin types and ethnicities.
  • PERCENTILE SCORES: VISIA’s patented comparison to norm analysis uses the world’s largest skin feature database to grade your patient’s skin relative to others of the same age and skin type. This can measure and compare spots, wrinkles, pores, UV spots, brown spots and red areas among other skin concerns.
  • LOUPE TOOL: Allows us to target a selected area of the image for maximum impact. We can zoom in, expand or shrink.

All of these applications and tools helps us to thoroughly delve into your skin concerns, and suggest treatments that will make a real difference to your skin’s health.

VISIA can be used to identify and determine the best treatments for a whole range of skin concerns, including acne, wrinkles, pores, porphyrins and UV Spots.

Due to the provision of a score for each key area examined, we can let you know the areas that need the most attention, and create a bespoke plan for you based on your skin’s needs.

Through its quantitative analysis and visual assessment of the face, it offers clients the chance to see how they will age, how areas could worsen if not targeted and how their skin compares to others of similar ages and lifestyles.

With the addition of the ViewMyConsult web portal, you can view your imagery, treatment recommendations and treatment progress whenever you like, and all of this is password-protected, for your confidentiality.

It’s a painless process that takes place during your detailed consultation, taking virtually no time at all, and requires no downtime or recovery.

You can use the VISIA as frequently as you would like, and there’s no end to the skin concerns it can uncover and therefore, the benefits it can give your skin.

For pores we may recommend: M22: Reaches the deep layers of the skin to reduce pore size and boost skin health. Carbon Laser Peel: Absorbs excess sebum and impurities from deep within the pores, while also removing dead skin cells and blackheads. ENVY Facial: Exfoliates, cleanses and infuses the skin with serums, minerals and vitamins to leave it healthy and beautiful. Ultracel: Combines ultrasound, radiofrequency and microneedling to treat all layers of the skin.

For wrinkles we may recommend: Botox: A purified protein that is injected into the skin, it helps to lessen the effects of fine lines and wrinkles, and prevents new ones from forming. Dermal Fillers: Full of hyaluronic acid that stimulates cell grown, dermal fillers are used to plump up skin that lost volume due to ageing. Nu Era Tight: Using radio frequency, it delivers heat to various skin depths to create firmer, smoother and tighter skin. Exilis Elite: Uses radio frequency to heat the dermis, which causes new collagen growth deep within this layer.

For acne we may recommend: Dermalux LED Light Therapy: Uses Red Light, Blue Light and near-infrared to repair the skin, reduce inflammation and add antibacterial benefits. Intraceuticals Oxygen Facial: Uses a specially-designed handpiece to blow medical-grade oxygen, serums and hyaluronic acid across the face to soothe the skin. Intracel: Uses microneedling, radiofrequency and ultrasound to target acne by gently piercing through the area stimulating collagen, elastin and fibroblasts production for natural healing.

For red veins we may recommend: ThermaVein Facial Vein Removal: Uses thermocoagulation, which seals off the vein walls, causing the red veins to disappear. M22: The Lumenis® IPL Photorejuvenation treatment uses intense pulsed light to gently remove unwanted blood vessels and red veins. Sclerotherapy: A salt-based solution is injected into the vein, which causes the lining of the blood vessel to swell and stick together. This will turn the vessel into a scar, which will fade away.

For pigmentation we may recommend: Obagi Skin Peel Treatments: A small concentration of Tricloracetic Acid is mixed with a special blue base and is applied to the skin to help remove dead and damaged cells, and stimulate the growth of new ones. Ultracel: Creates an even texture and tone across the whole face. Intracel: Gently heats the dermis to plump and tighten the skin, and create a more even skin tone. ENVY Facial: Infuses serums such as Ultra Hydrating Serum, Vitamin C Serum and Skin Brightening Serum into the skin to leave it feeling, and looking fabulous.
