Tear troughs, dark circles and eyebags are conditions that many men and women struggle with at some point in their lives. While they may appear to be very similar, they are actually three different conditions. Dark circles occur when blood vessels beneath the thin skin of the area around the eye are dilated and close to the surface of the skin – most commonly when we are tired, dehydrated or have been drinking alcohol. Dark circles are primarily a pigmentation issue, but often appear in combination with eye bags and tear troughs. Eyebags occur when fluid is retained under the eye, creating a small area of swelling under the eye and casting a shadow across the undereye area. Cool compresses, staying hydrated and sleeping well can help to reduce or eradicate eye bags.
Tear troughs, however, are physical hollows under the eyes that cast a shadow that may make you look tired and aged, and are generally harder to cover and reduce than eye bags and dark circles. Tear troughs can be brought on by ageing as the skin in the area becomes thinner and facial fat descends under the eye, casting a shadow across the area. They can also be genetic and appear in young people as well. Dermal fillers are an ideal treatment for tear troughs as they work by adding volume from beneath the skin. This way, they can fill the hollows under the eyes and create a smooth, brightened and more youthful appearance.
At Medispa Cheshire, Doctor Nyla uses Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers for her tear trough treatments, as they are incredibly safe, and are biodegradable, making them perfect for treatment around the delicate eye area. HA fillers can be used safely all over the face, including underneath the eyes to create non-permanent, non-surgical lifting and smoothing, with fantastic results.

The first step in your journey with Doctor Nyla is your consultation. This allows Doctor Nyla and the team to understand exactly what it is you want from your treatment, and also to give you recommendations based on your unique facial structure and sound medical advice.
Doctor Nyla is one of the UK’s most in-demand dermal filler practitioners for many reasons, and first and foremost is her extensive knowledge and understanding of different filler types. While certain areas of the face, like the jawline and chin, require thicker and denser dermal fillers to get the best results, the thin and delicate area of the undereye requires a more precise touch.
We use very subtle, soft and smoother dermal filler for this area, due to how expressive it is, to avoid any loss of facial movement. We use high-quality, top of the line fillers to ensure you get results that last while still subtly and effectively enhancing your natural beauty.
Before your treatment, we’ll apply a numbing cream to the area to ensure your comfort during treatment to such a sensitive area. After the local anaesthetic has had time to take effect, Doctor Nyla will begin the injection process. As an expert with years of medical experience, Doctor Nyla has an excellent understanding of how to inject around the delicate eye area as safely and comfortably as possible while creating incredibly subtle and beautiful results.
As a completely non-surgical treatment, there is very little downtime with all dermal filler treatments, including tear trough rejuvenation, however, there are a few things you should avoid to speed up the recovery process, prevent any complications and ensure optimum results after the treatment.
You should avoid wearing makeup, touching your face or using any skincare other than gentle cleansers and warm (not hot) water for around six hours after treatment at a minimum, and ideally should avoid these things until the next day.
You should also avoid strenuous exercise, extreme heat such as saunas and steam rooms and chemical exfoliants such as AHAs for around 24 hours. Finally, you should avoid non-essential blood-thinning products, such as ibuprofen and aspirin. If you experience any pain or discomfort after treatment, you can take other painkillers like paracetamol.
It is common to experience mild to moderate swelling, bruising, tenderness and itching in the treatment area, as well as small red marks where the filler has been injected, though this should subside after a few days and be completely gone within a few weeks. If you experience any extreme discomfort or symptoms worsen, contact the clinic immediately.
