How Does Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Work?

Doctor Nyla performs her anti-wrinkle treatments at the Medispa clinics in Alderley Edge in CheshireLiverpool and Mayfair in London.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our faces never aged, and we stayed wrinkle-free? Wouldn’t it be great if lines, blemishes and crow’s feet never formed, and no matter how much we smiled, laughed, cried and creased up?

Our anti-wrinkle injections are a quick, safe and effective way to reduce the effects of skin ageing, while also preventing new lines and wrinkles from forming. Infused with purified proteins, they work by blocking nerve signals in muscles, when injected into specific areas of the face. This temporarily freezes the muscle, reducing the effects of facial movement. The treatment only takes 15 minutes, and with results noticeable within 2 weeks, your face will have never looked better! Due to Doctor Nyla’s precision and the incredible results she provides our clients with – we have clients visiting us from cities and towns as varied as Didsbury, Manchester, Birmingham, LiverpoolHaleKnutsford and Sale for all of their anti-wrinkle treatments.

Disclaimer: Each Botox treatment includes a medical consultation which may or may not lead to the provision of a prescription.

What our customers say

What is anti-wrinkle treatment?

Anti-wrinkle injections, also known as neurotoxin, or botulinum toxin, are naturally-occurring proteins that work to block nerve signals at the injection point. The injections contain a naturally occurring neurotoxin, botulinum toxin type A, which helps to stop the muscle from over contracting and wrinkling the skin. As signals from the nerves to the muscles in the face are stopped, the injected muscle will no longer be able to contract as tightly, causing wrinkles to relax and soften. Perfect for the forehead lines, frown lines,  crow’s feetbunny lines and the chin, as well as smoker’s lines and skin ageing of the neck, anti-wrinkle injections can take years off of your face, enhancing your natural beauty.

Injected using a fine needle into specific muscles, the procedure takes approximately 15 minutes, with only minimal discomfort, if any at all. After administering anti-wrinkle injections for over 18 years and having performed over 65,000 procedures, our team are highly skilled in administering neurotoxin treatments, and consistently create amazing results that are natural-looking and subtle, yet still give you a beautiful boost.

One of the most popular cosmetic treatments for clients’ of all ages and skin types, Anti-wrinkle injections can restore your skin and give you back the confidence you may have lost due to the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet.

Your Questions Answered.

Dr Nyla answers the most common Anti-Wrinkle Treatment questions.

Depending on the number of areas being treated in each session, an anti-wrinkle injection appointment can be completed in as little as 15 minutes, making it the perfect lunchtime treatment.

Anti-wrinkle injections last for three to six months depending on the client, with top up treatments available should you wish.

During anti-wrinkle injection treatment, Doctor Nyla will use her specially developed technique to administer a controlled amount of neurotoxin into the patient using a fine needle. An optional numbing cream is available should you need it, but the procedure is relatively pain-free, and many of our clients choose to have treatment free of anaesthetic.

Results are noticeable within a few days, with optimum results becoming apparent at around 2 weeks post-treatment. The treatment can last up to 6 months, after which time a top-up treatment may be required.

There is no downtime with anti-wrinkle injections, although patients may be advised to stop taking medications such as aspirin prior to the appointment to minimise chances of bruising.

The best time to consider having anti-wrinkle injections is when you begin to notice that your dynamic lines (these are the wrinkles that only appear through expression) appear regardless of expression and form even when static. However, it differs from person to person, dependent on genetic and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, stress, cigarette smoking, and other environmental factors. Anti-wrinkle injections work best at this stage, rather than with deeply etched lines, which are more difficult to smooth out.

The longer you wait, the more invasive the treatments for wrinkles become – for example, dermal fillers are used when anti-wrinkle injections will not suffice. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to reduce the appearance of current wrinkles.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to treat areas such as:

Frown lines – Forehead lines resulting from gathering of tissue between the eyebrows or fold, and caused by squinting and frowning.

Crow’s Feet – Fine lines that form around the eyes, typically caused by sun exposure and smoking.

Bunny Lines – Fine wrinkles that appear when you scrunch up your nose, such as when you smile or laugh.

Necklines – Necklines including horizontal ‘necklace lines’ and vertical ‘platysmal bands’ (Nefertiti Neck Lift) can be caused by everything from genetics and ageing to spending too much time looking down (i.e. at your phone).

Marionette Lines: Creases or folds that start at the outer corners of the mouth and run down to the outside edges of the chin. Marionette lines can be caused by various factors, including bone structure, skin type and the amount of fat and collagen in your face.

Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to treat medical conditions such as migraines, excessive sweating and facial flushing.

Anti-wrinkle injections can stop migraines before they even start, with treatments recommended every twelve weeks for maximum effect. This treatment works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitters that are associated with pain, meaning that you no longer have to experience the severe pain of a migraine.

Anti-wrinkle injections can help with excessive sweating by blocking the signals that the body sends to stimulate sweat glands. It is injected into the skin, and the effects last for 3-6 months.

Anti-wrinkle injections can treat blushing of the face, neck and chest by blocking the signals between nerve cells that reach the skin and blood vessels. For those who suffer from anxiety and are embarrassed by their blushing, anti-wrinkle injections can bring back confidence and significantly improve quality of life by removing this concern altogether.

Some people are self-conscious about the amount of tooth and gum that is revealed when they smile. Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to minimise this by relaxing the muscle above the upper lip, thereby preventing it from lifting as high.

Anti-wrinkle injections can treat horizontal ‘necklace lines’ and vertical ‘platysmal bands’ in the neck with a treatment known as the Nefertiti Neck Lift, restoring a tighter and youthful appearance of the skin on the neck.

– Tell your doctor if your are pregnant or breastfeeding.
– Tell your doctor if you have had any problems in the past with previous injections botulinum toxin or with injections in general.

Anti-wrinkle injections come in the form of a vial, which contains botulinum toxin in powder form. Your Doctor will dilute this powder by adding saline solution.

Once reconstituted, your Doctor will draw up the necessary amount using the syringe. After disinfecting your skin (and marking the injections sites) your Doctor will inject the treatment at several points, directly into the muscles.

To ensure the proper healing environment, be certain to observe the following:

– For at least three days post-treatment = do NOT use any products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything other ‘active’ skincare.
– Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 24 hours. Do not use tanning beds.
– Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
– No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment.
– No excessive alcohol consumption on the day of the treatment.
– Do not lie face down following the treatment.
– Do not use ibuprofen following the treatment for 2 weeks.

Be certain to adhere to the following post-treatment instructions:

CLEAN – Use a gentle cleanser and warm (not hot!) water only to cleanse the face for around 72 hours after treatment and gently dry the treated skin by patting the skin with a soft towel, instead of rubbing the skin. Always make sure that your hands are clean when touching the treated area.

HEAL – Antioxidant serums are recommended post-treatment as they can help to heal the treatment area, by smoothing the skin and reducing irritation.

HYDRATE – Following your treatment, your skin may feel drier than normal. Hyaluronic Acid is an ideal ingredient to hydrate, balance and restore the skin.

MAKEUP – It is recommended that makeup should not be applied for 24 hours after the procedure. Do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush, especially if it is not clean.

This treatment can effectively create a more youthful look by softening the lines and wrinkles that result from repeated facial movements, such as: frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds and smokers’ lines. A thorough consultation with one of our team will take a look at your concerns and, by taking into account your desired outcome, will advise on the best treatment option for you.

All of our clinics in Liverpool, Cheshire, Birmingham and London ensure that all anti-wrinkle injections are performed only by the most experienced doctors and nurses, as patient safety is of paramount importance to Dr. Nyla and her team. The product itself is FDA approved for medical and cosmetic use and is only recommended by our experts if we feel you are a suitable candidate.

Many patients will describe anti-wrinkle injections as a fairly comfortable treatment. The product is administered using a very fine needle and the treatment area can be numbed using a topical anaesthetic cream, prior to the procedure. Any discomfort is short lived and only usually lasts for the duration of the actual treatment.

Minor side effects are commonly experienced with anti-wrinkle injections. Some redness, swelling, itching and bruising can appear at the treatment site, which has usually subsided within 12 – 24 hours. This will be explained to you during the pre-treatment consultation, along with any other potential side effects that can occur. Dr. Nyla and her team are always available to answer any questions about any of the treatments we have available.

If you are suffering from any illness and taking any related medication. If you’re taking aspirin or anti-inflammatories this could affect your suitability for treatment, as bruising is more common when treatment is carried out in conjunction with these medications.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you’ve experienced any problems with neurotoxin injections in the past, or with injections in general.

If you have any inflammation in the muscles or skin where you’d like us to inject.

If you had ever had problems swallowing.

If you’ve ever had any surgery that may affect the area you’d like us to inject, or if you have any pending operations.

Anti-wrinkle injections boast having very little downtime attached and before you leave the clinic your practitioner will ensure you have been given any relevant aftercare instructions. You will need to avoid rubbing / touching the treated area (including applying make-up) for up to 4 hours, post procedure. For up to 24 hours you should avoid strenuous activity and exposing the skin to extremes of heat or cold should also be avoided for up to 1 week.
