How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
The active ingredient of Botox is botulinum, a naturally occurring toxin used in a weakened and purified form.
Lines and wrinkles appear on the face and neck when the skin is stretched and moved by contractions in the underlying muscles.
When Botox is injected into these muscles, it blocks nerve signals, preventing movement. As a result, the facial muscles remain relaxed, and your lines and wrinkles look softer and less noticeable.
What can Botox do for me?
Botox injections will rejuvenate your features and boost your self-confidence. It can be used to treat the signs of ageing on the face, including the following:
Facial lines
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Glabellar lines – creases between the eyebrows
- Bunny lines – ‘crinkles ‘on the side of your nose
- Marionette lines – lines from the corner of your mouth to your chin
- Nasolabial lines – lines from the nose to your mouth
Downturned mouth
The loss of tone in the muscles and skin can cause your lower face to sag, and this can cause the corners of your mouth to turn downwards, making you look sad.
Dr Nyla can subtly correct this downward tilt with skilfully placed injections.
Changes in the neck
Ageing is often seen in the neck as muscles and skin lose their elasticity and begin to sag. Horizontal ‘necklace’ lines and vertical ‘platysmal lines can develop.
Dr Nyla injects Botox to relax contracted muscles restoring a smoother and more youthful profile to the neck.
Non-cosmetic uses for Botox
As a qualified doctor Dr Nyla can use these injections to treat medical as well as cosmetic problems, including the following:
Excessive perspiration
Excessive perspiration or sweating is a distressing condition that can cause embarrassment and social anxiety. It typically affects the palms and underarms.
Injections of botulinum toxin can be used to block nerve signals to the sweat glands reducing their activity.
Migraine Headaches
Migraines are often resistant to medication, but many sufferers have found relief with Botox injections.
Carefully placed injections can block the release of the neurotransmitters that cause headaches and other unpleasant migraine symptoms.
Gummy Smile
A contracted upper lip will give you a ‘gummy smile,’ revealing a higher percentage than usual of your teeth and gums.
Botox injections relax the upper lip so that smiling will not pull it back so far.
Excessive Blushing
Excessive and uncontrollable flushing of the face, neck, and chest can be very embarrassing and impact your work and social life.
Fortunately, Botox injections offer a simple solution as they can block the nerves that control the circulation in the affected area.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?
Some clients find the process a little uncomfortable, but Dr Nyla and her team have spent years making clients feel comfortable, so you are in safe hands.
The needles used are ultra-fine, and your skin will be anaesthetised with numbing cream before the procedure begins.
You may experience temporary tenderness, swelling, itching, or bruising around the injection sites, but this will disappear within 24 hours.
Your treatment will last between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how much Botox is required for the desired result.
Do I need to take any precautions after my treatment?
Your skin will be extra sensitive after treatment, so treat it gently and avoid rubbing, touching, or applying makeup to your face if possible.
Hot showers, baths, saunas may irritate the injection sites, and direct sunlight should be avoided for a week.
You will receive lots of information about how to look after your skin before you leave the clinic.
Following this advice will help to keep you looking great.
How soon will I need my next treatment?
Dr Nyla will advise you when you will be ready for a top-up treatment, but this is usually about three to four months after your first.
