Avoid active skincare products after your anti-wrinkle injections

It is crucial to avoid any ‘active’ skincare product for the first three days after treatment. Active skincare includes any products that contain Alpha or Beta Hydroxy Acids, Retinol (Vitamin A) or Vitamin C. These products work hard to make your skin look great, and there is the possibility that their effects could irritate the tiny injection sites where the aesthetician has used Botox.

After a few days, you will be able to return to your previous skincare regime with no problem, but you should treat your skin gently, avoiding firm massage for a few more days.

Keep out of the sun after your Botox treatment

Of course, it is always essential to protect your precious skin from the heat of the sun, but after Botox, your skin may be extra fragile, and any burning could inflame the injection sites causing irritation. Sunbeds are best avoided for the same reason.

Avoid vigorous exercise straight after Botox

Your Botox practitioner has carefully selected the injection sites to give the best possible results, and you need to take a few precautions to ensure that the Botox stays where you want it to be! It is a good idea to have a break from your usual exercise regime after treatment. Wait at least 24 hours, or possibly longer if your practitioner recommends it, before hitting the gym.

That rosy glow that you get from a vigorous workout is caused by increased blood flow to your face. This extra flow could encourage the Botox to spread to unintended areas, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment. Your doctor will advise against swimming for at least 24 hours too. As well as the exertion increasing blood flow, your goggles and swim hat could put pressure on your face, again causing the Botox to move around.

Keep upright for the best anti-wrinkle treatment results

It’s great to relax, but please avoid taking a siesta straight after your Botox treatment. Nothing is more likely to cause your Botox to migrate to unwanted areas than lying down, especially face down. Yoga headstands are also a bad idea! To keep your Botox where it is needed, it is best to stay upright, even if that means sleeping propped up on pillows. Try to avoid rubbing your face as that could also move the Botox around.

How to avoid bruising after your Botox treatment

The increased blood flow caused when you exercise can also encourage bruising at the injection sites. Sadly, drinking a few celebratory cocktails after your treatment can have the same effect. Alcohol can act as a blood thinner, encouraging bruising around the treatment sites. Ibuprofen and any drugs containing aspirin thin the blood and should be avoided for two weeks after your treatment.

What next?

That’s enough of the things that you can’t do after Botox! You CAN look forward to a fresh and rejuvenated you in just a couple of weeks. A few simple precautions taken after your procedure will ensure that you are delighted with the results of your anti- wrinkle treatment.
