The FUE or follicular unit extraction procedure provides a quick, safe treatment suitable for many hair loss conditions. It is considered the gold standard amongst hair transplant procedures as it causes minimal scarring with permanent regrowth. It is an improvement on other techniques which involve the removal of a thin strip of skin with healthy follicles and carry the risk of leaving a linear scar. It preserves the existing hair growth and both the donor and implant areas have a very natural appearance.

Using the FUE technique, the surgeon removes individual hair follicles from the parts of the scalp with the thickest growth, usually the sides and back. These parts of the scalp are unlikely to be affected by male pattern baldness, ensuring healthy and permanent regrowth. The donor follicles are preserved at low temperature while they are carefully scrutinised by our technicians who are trained to select the healthiest follicles. The surgeon then implants each follicle individually to create a new hairline. The skill of our surgeons ensures that the hairs will grow in the correct direction to provide a thick and healthy regrowth.

The length of the FUE procedure depends on how many hair follicles are required to give you the hair that you desire but will typically take between six and ten hours.

The ARTAS technique Liverpool

The ARTAS transplant is similar to the FUE, except the procedure is not performed manually by the surgeon but by a robotic transplant device under the surgeon’s control. Using a stereoscopic vision system and AI algorithms, the transplant device can choose the healthiest donor follicles while they are still in your scalp. At the same time, ARTAS identifies the best implant site and simultaneously harvests and implants the donor follicles. 

How quickly will I see results?

After six to nine months of regrowth,  you will see the real benefits of the procedure. The incisions made by the surgeon may result in the tiniest of scars, but these will only be visible with a very close crop – number one or two. The regrowth will be healthy, thick, and permanent. The hair follicles will have been implanted to grow in the same direction as the rest of your hair, providing a natural hairline. Finally, YOU will be able to choose your hairstyle rather than your thinning hair dictating your style. You will be able to play sport and swim without worrying about your hair.

How much downtime will I need?

The downtime after either type of transplant will be minimal. The procedure will take place under local anaesthetic, avoiding the need to recover from a general anaesthetic. You will not need to wear a supporting bandage. It may be possible to hide the donor area by merging it into a ‘fade’ hairstyle or hiding it beneath long hair. You will need to treat your hair and scalp with care after the procedure as the follicles can take a while to establish themselves in their new position. You should leave your hair unwashed and uncovered for three days post-transplant. When you wash it, you should be very gentle in the pressure you apply and only use lukewarm water. It is best to avoid using a hairdryer for two weeks and hairdressing procedures including cutting, curling, or dying for three months. Strenuous exercise is best avoided for a while after surgery.

Arriving By Car

From the M57 or M58 take the A5758 towards Southport. At the roundabout take the first exit onto Southport Road, A565 for 1.5 miles, straight across the first roundabout. Turn right onto Coronation Road, B5193, taking the first exit at the roundabout to stay on Coronation Road. At the second roundabout continue straight onto Mersey Road and the right into Kenilworth Road.
