Secret PRO downtime depends on which part of the treatment is used: RF microneedling, fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, or a combination of both. RF microneedling usually involves a shorter recovery period, with temporary redness, warmth, and mild swelling. Fractional CO2 laser treatment can cause more visible redness, sensitivity, dryness, and flaking while the skin renews. When both technologies are used in one session, allow more time before an important event.

At Dr Nyla Medispa, Secret PRO treatment is tailored to the skin concern, skin type, and the level of correction required. This means there is no single recovery timetable that applies to every patient. Your practitioner will explain the expected downtime for your treatment settings before your appointment.

Why Secret PRO recovery varies

Secret PRO combines two technologies that can be used independently or together. RF microneedling delivers radiofrequency energy through fine needles into selected depths of the skin, while fractional CO2 laser resurfacing treats the skin surface. The CO2 element is generally associated with more visible recovery because it creates controlled microscopic treatment zones in the outer skin layers.

This distinction matters if you are planning treatment around a holiday, wedding, work presentation, or other social event. RF microneedling commonly has a shorter visible recovery period than fractional CO2 laser treatment, although both may be considered depending on the concern and clinical assessment.

Treatment approach What you may notice Recovery planning
RF microneedling Redness, warmth, mild swelling, sensitivity, and tiny needle marks Often a few days of visible recovery
Fractional CO2 laser More pronounced redness, swelling, tightness, dryness, bronzing, or fine flaking Allow around a week for the more visible stages, depending on intensity
RF microneedling and CO2 laser A combination of deeper remodelling and surface recovery effects May involve a longer recovery period than RF microneedling alone

These are planning guidelines rather than guarantees. Healing can be affected by the treatment area, energy settings, skin type, the presence of active skin concerns, and individual response. Residual pinkness can remain after the skin feels comfortable and the initial flaking has settled.

Clinical Note from Dr Nyla Raja

Recovery expectations should form part of individual treatment planning. The concern being treated, skin type, medical history, and risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation all help inform whether RF microneedling, fractional CO2 laser, or both elements of Secret PRO may be appropriate. Not every patient requires both technologies.

What to expect after Secret PRO

Immediately after treatment

The skin may look pink to red and feel warm, similar to sun exposure. Mild swelling and tenderness can occur, particularly in delicate facial areas. Pinpoint bleeding or small treatment marks may be visible after RF microneedling. If fractional CO2 laser has been used, the skin may feel tighter and more sensitive.

These short-term effects are expected responses to controlled treatment of the skin. A cool, clean environment and the specific post-treatment products advised for you can help support comfort during the early recovery period.

The first few days

After RF microneedling, redness and sensitivity usually settle progressively over the following days. The skin can feel dry, rough, or slightly tight while its barrier recovers.

After fractional CO2 laser treatment, redness may be more noticeable and the skin may develop a bronzed, finely crusted, or flaky appearance before shedding naturally. Do not rub, scratch, or pick at treated skin. Picking can disrupt healing and may increase the risk of infection or unwanted pigment change.

The first one to two weeks

Once the surface has recovered, the skin may look smoother and fresher, but collagen remodelling continues more gradually. Results for concerns such as acne scarring, texture, and visible pores develop over time rather than overnight. Depending on the treatment plan, a course of sessions may be advised.

It is normal for recovery to be less predictable after a more intensive CO2 treatment than after RF microneedling alone. If you have a significant occasion approaching, discuss this during consultation rather than assuming you will be camera-ready by a particular date.

Secret PRO aftercare: how to support recovery

Your individual aftercare instructions should always take priority, particularly if fractional CO2 laser has been used. The following measures are usually important after energy-based skin treatment:

  • Keep skincare simple. Use only the cleanser, moisturiser, or recovery products approved for you until the skin has settled. Pause potentially irritating products, including exfoliating acids, retinoids, scrubs, and other active skincare, until advised that it is appropriate to restart them.
  • Do not pick or exfoliate. Let any flaking or fine crusting lift away naturally. Avoid facial brushes, cleansing devices, waxes, and abrasive towels while the skin is healing.
  • Protect the skin from ultraviolet exposure. Avoid direct sun exposure, seek shade, and use broad-spectrum SPF 50 once advised for your stage of healing. Sun protection is particularly important in reducing the likelihood of post-inflammatory pigmentation after resurfacing treatment.
  • Avoid heat and friction while the skin is reactive. Intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, swimming pools, and hot tubs can aggravate redness and sensitivity, or expose healing skin to avoidable irritants. Your practitioner will tell you when these can be resumed.
  • Be careful with make-up. Do not apply make-up to skin that is open, oozing, heavily crusted, or actively peeling. Ask when it is suitable to resume make-up for your particular treatment, and use clean brushes and applicators.
  • Follow any cold-sore plan. Tell your practitioner before treatment if you have a history of cold sores, especially when the area around the mouth is being treated. Laser resurfacing can trigger reactivation in susceptible patients, and preventative antiviral treatment may be considered where clinically appropriate.

NHS guidance for CO2 laser aftercare similarly emphasises gentle cleansing, avoiding picking, protecting treated skin from sun exposure, and seeking advice if there are signs of infection. Read the NHS patient guidance on CO2 laser aftercare.

When to contact the clinic

Redness, mild swelling, sensitivity, dryness, and temporary textural changes are common during early recovery. Contact the clinic promptly if symptoms are becoming worse rather than gradually improving, or if you develop increasing pain, spreading redness, marked warmth, pus or coloured discharge, a fever, extensive blistering, or a new cold-sore outbreak.

Seek urgent medical care if you experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, rapidly increasing facial swelling, severe eye pain, or changes to vision. These are not expected treatment effects and should not wait for a routine review.

Planning Secret PRO around an event

For RF microneedling alone, it is sensible to allow several days before an important occasion. If fractional CO2 laser or combined Secret PRO treatment is planned, allow at least one to two weeks where possible, particularly if you would prefer the skin to have settled before photographs, travel, or make-up application.

The key point is that Secret PRO is not one fixed procedure. Its RF microneedling and fractional CO2 laser elements have different recovery profiles, so your treatment plan should balance the improvement you are seeking with the downtime you can realistically accommodate.
